Original™ Sonoline B Baby Doppler+Free Gel
The Sonoline B is a simple, easy-to-use fetal doppler monitor that allows expectant mothers and health care professionals to retrieve and listen to an unborn baby's heartbeat. Suitable for hospital, clinical and home care use. Equipped with a 3Mhz water resitant probe, the Sonoline B Fetal Doppler provides crystal clear sound for an accurate listening experience. In addition, the fetal doppler is equipped with a full high definition LCD digital display which provides three modes: real-time fetal heart rate display mode, averaged fetal heart rate display mode and a manual mode that allows the user to view the fetal heart rate for an 8 heart beat period. The LCD will also display real-time battery level data. The Sonoline B Fetal Doppler is also equipped with a headphone socket and a built-in speaker for a variety of audio output options.
When the probe falls away from the Sonoline, the LCD screen will display a flickering signal in addition to the probe frequency indication data disappearing to remind users to reconnect the probe.

💡 What to Know
Before you begin your home listening journey, here are the essential technical certifications and safety guidelines:
- Fully Certified: The Sonoline B features full CE Certification and complies with UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) standards, ensuring it meets strict British and European safety and performance regulations for medical hardware.
- Best Timing: The device is highly sensitive, but it is easiest to find a heartbeat starting around the 12th week of pregnancy.
- The Gel Factor: You must use ultrasound transmission gel. Without it, the probe will only produce loud, static air interference.
💬 What People Are Saying
Real feedback compiled from UK parenting communities and product testers:
- "An absolute anxiety lifesaver." Many mums note that listening for a few seconds between midwife appointments gives them massive peace of mind, especially in the second trimester before regular kicks start.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the Sonoline B safe to use frequently during pregnancy?
A: Yes. The Sonoline B is a non-invasive device that uses low-intensity ultrasound technology, fully compliant with CE and UKCA safety standards. However, medical professionals recommend limiting sessions to a few minutes at a time, a couple of times a week, purely for bonding purposes.
Q: From how many weeks can I start listening?
A: While the highly sensitive 3 MHz probe can occasionally pick up a heartbeat as early as 10 to 12 weeks, it is most reliable from 14 weeks onward. If you try early and cannot find it, do not panic—your baby is likely just tucked behind your pelvic bone or facing the wrong way.
Q: How do I know I am hearing my baby’s heartbeat and not my own?
A: Your baby’s heart beats much faster than yours. A healthy fetal heart rate sounds like a rapid, galloping horse and typically registers between 120 and 160 BPM on the digital screen. Your own pulse will sound like a slower, steady thumping, usually between 60 and 90 BPM.
Q: What does the placenta sound like?
A: The placenta has a very distinct, rhythmic "whooshing" or "swishing" sound, similar to the wind blowing through trees. It can match the baby’s heart rate speed, which is why it is frequently confused with the actual heart muscle.
Q: Can I use body lotion, baby oil, or aloe vera instead of ultrasound gel?
A: We strongly advise against this. While oils or lotions might feel similar, they do not conduct ultrasound waves efficiently and can trap air bubbles, resulting in loud, painful static through the speaker. Only approved water-soluble ultrasound transmission gel will give you a clear, static-free signal and protect the waterproof face of your probe.
Q: The digital screen number is jumping around wildly. Is my device broken?
A: Not at all. The Sonoline B calculates the Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) based on the audio signals it receives second-by-second. If you move the probe, or if the baby moves, the machine will temporarily read background noise or your own pulse, causing the numbers to fluctuate. Wait until you hear a steady "galloping" sound, hold the probe perfectly still, and the screen will stabilize.

I am currently pregnant with our first baby and have so much anxiety about it, I guess you hear alot of stories and not really knowing what to expect doesn’t help! Constantly paying for private scans Inbetween the usual NHS scans is very expensive so when I saw this fetal Doppler being used on Instagram and I had to try it out.
I am beyond happy with it! Don’t get me wrong it was a little fiddly and took me what felt like forever to find baby’s heartbeat but I eventually did! You can hear it loud and clear, the difference between your own heatbeat is very obvious too.
Would very recommend to nervous mums to be!
Really worth it for reassurance, I’m still early (10 weeks) and have a very physical job so wanted to know everything was ok after trying for a baby for so long. Hard to find at first when early but very happy.
Quality was good and was very accurate and helped me and my partner a lot
I bought this Doppler to help with my anxiety in the early stages of pregnancy before I was able to feel movement. The Doppler worked well and I was able to hear baby’s heartbeat every time I checked, which was lovely.
As long as you know where on your abdomen to place the probe (anywhere between pubic symphysis and the belly button) and be aware that it's only really possible to hear the heart beat after 15-16 weeks (as the baby has grown enough to now be out of the pelvis and heart beat is audible) and also be aware that the baby's heart beat is around 150 beats per minute and not around 70 (which is your own heart beat) then it's a great tool. Also, having the patience to slowly move the probe around to search for the tiny heart. As a doctor with knowledge of anatomy, I found this extremely easy to use and very reassuring before you can start feeling the baby move. It isn't as powerful as the ones we use in the hospital but it's definitely powerful enough to hear a strong fetal heartbeat. I discussed having a home doppler with my midwife and she says they do not recommend people get one as people typically do not know how to correctly use it. She told me some people place the probe near their own heart and claim they can hear the baby's heart beat.
So over all, use with caution! Excellent for the price paid, will continue to use it throughout pregnancy for reassurance. Would highly recommend in the right hands.
